Designated
as a bird sanctuary in Dept 1996, this 24 hectare remnant patch of
mangrove forest is located just 2 km north-east of Kota Kinabalu city
centre.
The
Sanctuary is the only remaining of an extensive mangrove forest that
once existed in much of the area of the coastal city of Kota Kinabalu.
The
site is an important refuge and feeding ground for many species of
resident birds, as well as several migratory species from Northern
Asia.
