DAY 1
We
depart from the hotel in Miri early at 0615hrs to the Kuala Baram
Jetty (35 minute drive) to board our express boat from there to
Mulu. On the away, our boat journey will break and make a stop in
Marudi town (2 hours) where we will have breakfast in the local
bazaar. We will take a short stroll in this small yet rustic town
before continuing on the express boat to Mulu (3hours). Along the
way, this official boat ‘taxi’ stops at various villages along
the river to drop off the natives at their longhouses and villages.
The express boat journey ends at Long Terawan – longhouse dwelling
of the Berawan tribe of Mulu.
Stretch you legs and we now transfer into open-air longboat
to go upriver to Mulu (usually one hour but depending on river
level). You will arrive the Royal Mulu Resort/Park chalet in the
evening where you will check-in. Overnight resort/ park chalet. (L)
DAY
2
Breakfast
is at leisure with a free morning for you to participate in the
various recreational activities – or just relax by the only
swimming pool in the jungle! (if you stay in the resort) In the
afternoon we will start off with the first part of our Cave tour to
the Deer and Lang Caves. Journey overland to the Mulu National Park
will be around 5 minutes. Register at the park after which it will
be a comfortable 3-km plank walk through the jungle to the caves.
Wait for the bats’ exit outside the cave on the observation
platform and return to the resort/park chalet late evening. Dinner
and overnight Resort/park chalet. (B)
DAY
3
After
breakfast this morning, our longboat ride will take 35 minutes. We
will stopover at the penan settlement before visiting the Wind and
Clearwater Caves. From the Wind cave, we will continue on the
plankwalk flanking the limestone cliff to the Clearwater Cave.
Picnic lunch is served at the Clearwater resthouse with some time to
swim in the very cool natural pool outside the cave. Return to the
resort/park chalet and you will check out for your return flight to
Miri departing at 1600hrs (times differ on certain days). (B/L)

Breakfast in Marudi is local (noodles) with hot/cold beverage or
toast bread with boiled/fried eggs. *
Light refreshment/packed lunch and biscuits are provided during the
express boat ride. You are advised to bring your own additional
drinking water. *
The express boats used are public transport operating on prescribed
departures from Miri and Marudi. Trip is planned to coincide with
the schedules. *Express
boats are air-conditioned, with life jackets under the seats and
with toilet facilities. Do note, the toilets are not all that
fantastic but does serve its purpose. Own tissues/toilet paper is
recommended. The open deck on the boat gives you a better view of
the scenic river journey but please exercise caution when on deck.
It can also get very hot on the open deck. *
River transfers are dependent on the water levels at the time.
Journeys may take longer or
faster than the anticipated times. Life jackets (provided in
longboats) must be worn on all open longboat river journeys
Mulu National Park accommodations are also available and extended stays possible.
